ABOUT
Emerald is admired for its rich green color, symbolizing growth, love, and renewal. As the birthstone for May, it has been treasured since ancient times, especially by royals like Cleopatra, who was known for her love of emeralds. With a hardness of 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale, it is durable but requires a bit of care due to natural inclusions. Its deep, vibrant color and timeless elegance make emerald one of the most cherished gemstones in fine jewellery.
COMPOSITION
Emerald is a variety of the mineral beryl, composed of beryllium aluminum silicate. Its rich green color comes from trace amounts of chromium and sometimes vanadium within the crystal. They can be brittle and so setting them on jewellery is an expensive deal. Being of low density, a 1 carat emerald will look bigger than a 1 carat diamond.
SOURCE
Emeralds are found in several parts of the world, with major sources including Colombia, Zambia, Brazil, and Zimbabwe. Colombian emeralds are especially famous for their deep green color and exceptional quality.
