COMPOSITION

Amethyst is a variety of quartz, composed mainly of silicon dioxide (SiO₂). Its signature purple color comes from trace amounts of iron along with natural radiation during its formation. The shade can vary from soft lilac to deep violet, depending on the conditions in which it forms.

Amethyst is found in various regions across the world, with major sources including Brazil, Uruguay, Zambia, and Russia. Brazilian amethyst is known for its large crystal formations, while Zambian stones are valued for their deeper and more intense purple tones.

FAME

One of the most iconic Amethyst necklaces owned by the Duke and Duchess of Windsor was designed by Cartier with 27 step cut amethyst and one heart shaped cabochon outlined with turquoises. The other is an Egyptian necklace from the 8th Century B.C, some more include the 96 carat “Morris Amethyst Brooch”, Queen Sylvia of Sweden’s Tiara originally a necklace belonging to a French Empress, and lastly the engraved “Bishops Ring.
